Here's the abstract for our talk:
The shipping agency process for a vessel to arrive, stand or depart a port is a complex and convoluted world. A mix of government rules, company procedures, and port requirements pose a myriad of scenarios with countless combinations and elevated knowledge worker intervention. Turbaduana is a maritime ship agency with a longstanding heritage dating back to the 1960s. The company has implemented an IBM BPM process application that allows them to control the arrival, standing and departure of their represented vessels in port. Join our teams as we explore our journey with using BPM with Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and the cognitive capabilities of IBM Datacap to generate tangible results that positively impact the bottom line.
The purpose of the talk is to introduce the usage of BPM in customs, logistics, and operations, where opportune actions reflect in the bottom line results of the organization. We will:
- Explore how the Turbaduana controls the customs process for vessel cargo imports and exports using BPM.
- Demonstrate how the organization utilizes the ECM capabilities built into every version of IBM BPM to share documents over the life span of their export processes.
- Expose how the usage of monitoring and escalation of events in BPM can bring oversight, control and substantial financial benefits to logistics organizations that have relationships with government agencies that impose costly fines when actions are not executed on time.
